It still doesn’t come close to being GRID 3, and is still only barely what fans expected of GRID 2, but assuming you’re not too bitter over the last game it is a welcome acknowledgement that Codemasters got things wrong the last time and hopefully they’re now fully committed to making the kind of games everyone wanted in the first place. BEST GRID AUTOSPORT IMAGES PC
The driving model in Autosport is a little more realistic than GRID 2, requiring constant attention when taking even the simplest bends and simulating understeer surprisingly ruthlessly. GRID Autosport for iPhone and iPad (9.99), originally developed for the PC and game consoles by Codemasters, is an amazing achievement in presenting the fidelity and complete package (including 10 free episodes of downloadable content) from the desktop and game console counterparts. The spiritual successor to the TOCA Touring Car series, the GRID games sits somewhere between Gran Tursimo and Project Gotham Racing in terms of realism and complexity. It may seem a minor complaint but it completely changes the mood and personality of the game, and helps create something the feels a lot more like PlayStation 2 era Codemasters. Despite it being obvious to everyone that Americans just aren’t interested the last few DiRT and GRID games have been filled with obnoxious dudebro style voiceovers and presentation, but thankfully that’s all gone in Autosport.
